Development of the Multiplex PCR for Detection of the DNA-Contained Emergent Diseases Agents in Pigs (African Swine Fever, Aujeszky Disease, Circoviral Disease)

African swine fever virus (ASFV), pseudorabies virus (Aujrszky’s disease virus, ADV) and porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV-2) are some of the most dangerous DNA viruses causing high amounts of morbidity and mortality in commercial and backyard pig farms. Traditional diagnosis of porcine viral infections requires complex and lengthy combinations of virological and serological tests. This study aimed to develop a method for rapid detection of the DNA-containing viral pathogens of pig in clinical materials using conventional multiplex PCR platform.

Development of an R Package for Syndromic Surveillance: Translating Research into Tools for the Veterinary Epidemiologist

A review of the development of veterinary syndromic surveillance in 2011 indicated that the field was incipient, but fast growing. Many countries are starting to explore different sources of data for syndromic surveillance. Some of the data streams evaluated share similarities with those used in public health syndromic surveillance, such as clinical records and laboratory data. However, many unique animal data sources have arisen, such as abattoir and carcass collection data.

Towards One Health: Increasing Awareness of Animal Health Among Public Health Stakeholders

The recent focus on the 'One Medicine' concept has resulted in an increased awareness that the control of diseases in animal populations, whether zoonotic or not, can be of great public health importance. Zoonotic and foodborne diseases represent an immediate threat to the health of human populations, while rapid spreading diseases in animals can compromise the food-supply and the economy of a country or region. On the other hand, animal populations can serve as sentinels, and continued surveillance can prevent the emergence and/or rapid spread of pathogens potentially harmful to humans.

Early detection of diseases in animal populations is key to protecting the health of companion animals and livestock. Safeguarding the health of animals aims at protecting human populations from diseases that are transmissible from animals to humans (zoonotic diseases), guaranteeing the safety of food products, and avoiding economical losses and food supply shortages due to loss of livestock.

Promoting the One Health Approach to prevent wildlife-borne zoonotic diseases in Bolivia – Yellow fever outbreak case study

Immediate detection and response to zoonotic disease outbreaks in animals are valuable strategies to prevent infections in humans. Detection and early warning of wildlife-borne pathogens are often limited by the lack of sensitized observers, efficient reporting mechanisms, trained personnel to conduct wildlife sampling, and adequate diagnostic capacity.

Syndromic Surveillance at the New York State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory

The New York State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (NYSVDL) receives more than 100,000 diagnostic submissions a year that are not currently used in any formal syndromic surveillance system. In 2009, a pilot study of syndrome classification schemes was undertaken and in 2011 a new general submission form was adopted, which includes a check list of syndromes, as part of the clinical history.

Detection of a Swine Erysipelas Outbreak Using Enhanced Passive Surveillance

EPS is a comprehensive effort to complement other types of surveillance and provide early detection and situational awareness of significant endemic, zoonotic, and emerging diseases of livestock. The concept for EPS involves gathering syndromic and observational data from multiple animal health surveillance sources, including private practitioners, livestock markets, livestock harvest facilities, and veterinary diagnostic laboratories. A signal indicating a potential animal health event in one data stream can be corroborated in the other streams.

The CA/BC border region encompasses a wide range of ecosystems, topography, dense urban areas, and agricultural developments that coexist in a limited geographic area and create numerous humananimal-environmental interfaces. The region is recognized for its high biodiversity, the presence of over 85 endangered plant and animal species, its importance on the Pacific migratory pathway, high levels of population mobility, and hosts the busiest international border in the world.

Improvement Control System of Rabies in Ukraine

In Ukraine in spite of considerable financial expenses on oral immunization of foxes and parenteral immunization of dogs and cats, it is not succeeded to reach considerable results in the fight with rabies. Unfortunately there was a negative tendency to increasing a part of dogs and cats in the structure of rabies disease which are the main source of rabies in people.

Objective

The purpose of the research was to find out the reasons of rabies antropurgisation in Ukraine.
