In 2021, the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE) and CDC’s NSSP partnered with the National Association for Public Health Statistics and Information Systems (NAPHSIS) and Ruvos on a project to route mortality data through the State and Territorial Exchange of Vital Events (STEVE) into NSSP ESSENCE. This collaboration included the participation of colleagues from vital records and syndromic surveillance practitioners from various jurisdictions to send mortality data via an API to provide more timely data and promote data modernization to improve public health surveillance. On December 14, 2021, a final project webinar was held and included a project overview from NSSP and NAPHSIS colleagues and a demonstration of the API from Ruvos colleagues.
